About Us

With funding assistance from WorkSafeBC, the Trucking Safety Council of BC was created in February, 2008 to address the high personal and economic costs of work-related injury and death in the trucking industry.

The primary objective of the Council is to establish itself as a key agency representing the occupational health and safety needs of the trucking industry in BC by providing services and programs that will influence a reduction in workplace injuries and fatalities.  It will also provide a leadership role by advocating for safety improvements where required and supporting ongoing research on issues of industry safety and performance.

WorkSafeBC has also approved the Council as the Certifying Partner for the trucking industry Certificate of Recognition (COR) program. Carriers that that have standardized health and safety programs and injury management systems in the workplace are eligible to receive up to a 15% rebate on WorkSafeBC premiums.

Workers compensation claims cost the BC Trucking industry over $30 million annually and ICBC pays out an average of $135 million per year in heavy vehicle related insurance settlements.  These claims arise from vehicle crashes, and more frequently, in the case of workers compensation costs, from non-vehicle related causes such as slips, falls and overexertion.  All workplace incidents and injury also have a social and personal cost that can have a detrimental and sometimes lifelong impact on workers, their families and the quality of life.  It is the mandate of the Trucking Safety Council of BC to influence a meaningful reduction in these costs.
